We recently had the opportunity to work with CreateSpace when designing textbooks for A Brilliant Life Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia.
At first glance, the procedure outlined by CreateSpace seemed to be a complicated procedure. However, it ended up being a fairly straight-forward process. We'll outline our experience and provide links to the PSD templates we used to create our files.
Book Size and Formatting
How to be a SuperHero is an 88-page, self-help workbook geared to help young boys identify their talents and potential career paths at an early age. Each page was designed in Photoshop CS2 with the following specs:
Creating the Interior File
During the design phase, we saved each psd file according to the page number of the book. For example, page 1 was saved as 1.psd, and page 2 as 2.psd, and so forth. Once all the pages were complete and proofed, we wrote an action to convert the PSD files to PDF format, compiled them into one file using PDFTK4ALL and had our interior file necessary to upload to CreateSpace.
Our files were accepted during the initial inspection by CreateSpace which allowed us to order proofs and begin the design phase for the second publication.
